"All of my indifference and detachment that I worked so hard to achieve over the years has just gone into the bowels of hell and right now I am gutted"
-Lisa Marie Presley about her ex husband Michael Jackson's death
We spend so much energy and time trying to pretend that we don't care about others; that their pain and their tears and all the things they suffer are not ours. We claim we don't miss them and we can live without them.
We also pretend that we don't see that beggar at the corner of K street and Connecticut avenue. Or those people dying in Darfour.
We even end up convincing ourselves that we don't need one another. That there is just no way we were made out of the same dust and molded by the same Hands.
BecauseWe also pretend that we don't see that beggar at the corner of K street and Connecticut avenue. Or those people dying in Darfour.
We even end up convincing ourselves that we don't need one another. That there is just no way we were made out of the same dust and molded by the same Hands.
We hurt one another
We betray one another
We kill one another.
And then they died.
The bus driver
The waiter
The bar tender.
The beggar sitting at the corner of K street and Connecticut avenue.
That Woman in Darfour
A brother
A sister
A father
A mother.
A lover.
A friend.
and there we stand, disillusioned. And "gutted".
